We love being creative and produce our very own designs.

Sculpture and furniture. 

Alongside working for the great clients we've had the pleasure of dealing with, we create our own designs. This includes furniture and artworks that we intend on developing in to a full range. 
We are able to take the specialist skills that we have on offer and realise the designs that stir inside us. It is in this space that we feel most at home. 

We enjoy exploring the possibilities with complimentary materials to see how they can be manipulated to create colour and texture. Metals such as copper and brass can be presented in so many ways alongside wood, glass and stone with stunning effect. Add lighting and the imagination takes off.

Metal fabrication 

People believe that metal fabrication simply involves sticking box section together. We disagree. We treat it as precisely as we do with machining, taking care with every step of the design to make sure that we meet tolerances resulting in well fitting components. 

We work with mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium box section for an array of designs that have included table bases for display cabinets at galleries to aluminium framework for a pull cart. 
No matter what the job, we treat it the same way.

We take on larger scale projects where repeatability is important alongside precision like these mild steel display bases for the Natural History Museum. 
Need your design painted or powder coated? We've got it covered. 

Larger scale

The way you would like your design to look in the end can be created with various finishing methods. From metal patination to polishing to powder coating and paint. We will metal finish in house and work with some fantastic powder coaters and painters providing a vast selection of colours and textures.

Being able to offer drawings before production means better quality work. 

Design and CAD work

We can aid in the very early stages of your design, working with you on conceptual drawings all the way to CAD work in Fusion 360 for final production drawings. 
This allows us to iron out as many kinks as possible before we get the welder out and results in a much better job. 

This is a piece of our own creation. Being able to draw it in Fusion allows us to see in to the future and manipulate our design if needed with minimal fuss and expense. 
Need the dimensions changed for the surface piece? Easy. A few minutes work on the computer and it's done.

We are so pleased to work with Wild City Studio in transforming public green spaces. This is a render from a project at Markfield Park in north London. It helped Jon and Steve to present their incredible vision to possible supporters of the project.

When we reach the moment when it is time to manufacture we can provide drawings of the details for how something will be made. It helps clarify the process and highlight any specifics which need to be noted.

We cover the whole range of weldable metals. 

Welding

We offer MIG and TIG welding in a variety of metals. We put the TIG machine through its paces on stainless, aluminium, titanium, brass, bronze and copper. This speciality means that we can make a number of options available to you and for your designs.

We have had all sorts of projects brought to us. Machined components that need attaching to other pieces and thin aluminium sheet metal which needs welding, planishing and finishing.

Small to medium batch production. 

Manual machining

With the machines we have here at Lions' Den we can produce prototype work as well as small to medium batch production. We work with an array of metals depending on your requirements and can aid in the R&D stages of the project if you need us to. 

We have a Bridgeport Mill. Some may consider it an antique up against CNC but it is a much loved machine in this workshop. 
Previous work has included these clamps for a gallery in London to allow them to fix labels to the display stands. These were machined in aluminium as they were to be welded to aluminium label backing plates and then powder coated. 

Milling machine

Our Colchester lathe has put in the hours on a variety of pieces. 
We have made a lot of these standoffs for artworks. Perspex is mounted to them in front of the artwork to protect it. Material, finish and dimensions can all be customised to suit. 
The ones shown here were finished as satin raw aluminium.

These brass bushings were made for a very special project for a dog called Lola. That's right, you heard correctly.

Shaping, folding, drilling, welding

Sheet metal work

From production work to one off sculptures, we love to work with sheet metal. We have produced small components for an AI car company and bespoke pieces for artists. 
Our machines here in the workshop cover a number of processes when it comes to sheet material that include folding, pressing, drilling, shaping compound curves on the wheeling machine and welders to tie it all together.

We work closely with laser cutting, water jet and CNC press braking companies to produce quality, repeatable and precise work.

These housings were made for the National Gallery. A detailed and precise job, all in aluminium, for holding screens inside as part of their 200 year anniversary exhibition. 
It involved a number of processes including laser cutting, folding and welding and each step had to be meticulously carried out.

We have draws full of hammers, dollies, a stretcher/shrinker, sand bag and stump and a wheeling machine made by Lambco Engineering. Fully equipped to make sculptures through to petrol tanks.
